With this exhibition he completed his study at Cavendish College. João wanted to achieve two things with this work. In the first place (not in the last place to myself) prove that he could deal with the unknown and unexpected reactions. And be able to keep himself standing. If you – as he did for this series – confront your subjects with your camera without asking permission, then you must be prepared to deal with negative reactions. That was needed at times. But he could also show that he was able todeal with opportunities spontaneously. Secondly, he wanted to document the creative heart of this metropolis and the people in it. Camden attracts countless artists, non-conformists and freethinkers and he wanted to make a portrait of those who work, live and visit. In his choice he mainly focused on visually surprising situations (eg clothing, posture).
